The total land area of Poland is about 312,685 sq km making it the 69th largest country in the world. Its population of over 38.5 million is concentrated mainly in large cities, including the country’s original capital, Krakow, and its present capital, Warsaw.

Today, as the 6th most populated member state of the European Union, Poland is a liberal democracy and is also a member of NATO, the United Nations, and the World Trade Organization.
